The former president was earlier given jail term for ordering the arrest and torture of protesters during his rule.
He was deposed by the army in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule.
The first democratically elected president of Egypt Mohammed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood came to power in elections after Hosni Mubarak's ouster, only to find themselves behind bars a year later when people protested against them for their atrocities.
They were overthrown by military government led Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi.
He lasted only one year in power before being ousted by the military on 3 July 2013.
