Australian family lost members in both MH370, MH17 tragedies

Sydney, July 18: In what could be an unparalleled occurrence, an Australian family has lost members in both the tragedies that the Malaysia Airlines have met this year, an AFP report said. While a couple of the family went missing on the MH370 that disappeared under mysterious conditions in March, two members of their extended family died in the MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine on Thursday.

Maree and Albert Rizk were on board the Kuala Lumpur-bound MH 17 to return to Melbourne after a month-long vacation in Europe, Australian media reported. Maree's father is married to a member of a family in Queensland which lost Rodney and Mary Burrows in the MH 370 disaster. That flight was going from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and the Burrows couple were also returning from a holiday abroad.

The Burrows, however, did not criticise the Malaysia Airlines for the repeated tragedies. "We have no ill feelings with Malaysia Airlines," Rodney's brother Greg said, according to the report, adding that they were still awaiting an answer on the MH370 case. The flight is yet to found.

Almost 300 people, including 28 Australians, were killed after MH 17 was shot down by a missile in the rebel-held territory in Ukraine on Thursday evening.
