Actor Kal Penn nominated by Obama for a key post

Washington, Nov 20: Kal Penn, a well known face in the Indian and Hollywood film fraternity, has been nominated by the US President Barack Obama for a high post in the field of art and humanities.

Born to Indian parents, he was named Kalpen Suresh Modi. He received his Bachelors in Arts from the university of California and shot to fame with the Harold and Kumar film series.

From the year 2009 till 2011, he served as the Associate Director of the Office of Public Engagement with the Obama Administration, working as liaison to Young Americans, the Arts, and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

He also worked as an adjunct Lecturer in Asian American Studies, Film Studies, and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. He served as a member of the Obama for America National Arts Policy Committee in 2008 and as a National Campaign Co-Chair in 2012.

"These fine public servants bring both a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their new roles. Our nation will be well-served by these men and women, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come," said Obama.

Some of his most well-known portrayals in films and television serials are those of Dr Lawrence Kutner in 'House' and as Kumar Patel in Harold and Kumar film series. 'Namesake' is another of his masterpiece contributions in the film industry.
