Jerusalem, Apr 27: Security forces shot and killed two young Palestinians, including a woman, who attempted to carry out a stabbing attack at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Jerusalem, Israeli police said today.
The pair approached security forces, and when they were ordered to stop, the woman pulled a knife out of her bag and waved it at an officer near her, police said.
The forces opened fire, killing both Palestinians. Police said they found two knives on the body of the man as well.
The incident occurred at the Qalandia checkpoint, a main crossing point from the West Bank into Jerusalem.
It was the latest in a wave of violence that broke out last September. Since then, 28 Israelis and two Americans have been killed in stabbings and other attacks by Palestinian assailants.
Nearly 200 Palestinians have also died, most of them said by Israel to have been attackers. The violence has shown signs of slowing in recent weeks.
