London, July 28: In what could be termed as shocking revelation, over 2.47 lakh attempts were made to access pornography websites from UK parliamentary computers in 2014.

The data has been made available in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by Express.co.uk, reported BBC.

Porn access in UK parliament

Above 300,000 attempts were made to access porn in 2013.

According to parliamentary authorities, all attempts to access porn sites were blocked and the figures might be inflated by "pop-ups" on some sites.

The month of October registered highest number of access at 30,801 while lowest 9,462 was recorded in the previous month. There were a total of 247,876 over the 12-month period.

Personal use of the internet in non-working times with "clear boundaries" in place "to discourage inappropriate use" is allowed for both Commons and Lords staff.

Replying to reports, the parliamentary authorities said the data "may not readily indicate the volume of internet usage in terms of activity or time for some websites".

It further said one user could generate multiple "views" of a site, while "pop-ups" linking to other sites could also be triggered.

It also said some of the results could have been due to unauthorised malware rather than individual users.
