Yogi seeks action plan to ban cow smuggling in UP
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a directive to the police to prepare an action plan to ban cow smuggling. He also ordered the police to come up with a plan to shut down illegal slaughterhouses.
The directive comes in the wake of several raids being conducted on illegal meat shops and slaughterhouses in Uttar Pradesh. Raids were conducted in Ghaziabad and Allahabad where two slaughterhouses were sealed on Saturday.
The closure of illegal slaughterhouses was one of the main issues raised by the BJP in the recent assembly elections. It was highlighted by both Adityanath and BJP president Amit Shah.
BJP's move has gotten support from animal rights groups. The groups have been running a campaign against illegal slaughterhouses and they have alleged that animals are treated cruelly.
