Bengaluru, Sept 29: As a part of an international campaign, World Heart Day is annually observed globally on Sept 29, in an attempt to create healthy lifestyle for all and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
On this day, hospitals, NGOs and other health institutes spread awareness about maintaining healthy hearts, by organising activities like health checkups, sports events, walks, runs and fitness sessions.
According to World Health Organisation (WHO), cardiovascular diseases are one of top causes of death worldwide.
High blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, smoking, inadequate intake of fruit and vegetables, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and lack of exercise, are some of the risk factors that may lead to heart disease or stroke.
