Meghalaya: Woman assaulted killed in front of husband, children

Shillong, June 4: In another horrendous crime against woman, a mother was shot dead in front of her five kids in brought daylight by militants from the Garo National Liberation Front. The woman was said to have resisted a bid to molest her, which ended in this. The incident happened in Meghalaya's South Garo Hills district where the woman was shot with six rounds of bullets in a point blank range with an automatic assault rifle.

According to the Meghalaya police, her husband and five children were locked up in the house who saw her assault and murder. The outfit behind the incident is a terror organization that was already black-marked by the Centre in 2012 January. They are alleged to have been involved in several cases of extortion, murder and kidnapping in all the three Garo districts of the state.

The woman was 35 years old. This incident came in the wake of the double gangrape and murder of teenaged cousins in Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, USA has condemned the series of crimes against wome. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said,"Like so many in India, we were horrified to learn of these violent sexual assaults and murders. Our thoughts are with the victims' families during this difficult time."

Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi assured that the case is being considered seriously.
