Woman, husband jump off moving train with baby to escape molestation
Alipurduar, Sept 23: In a horrifying incident in a stoppage close to Siliguri, a 27-year old woman allegedly jumped off a running train with her husband and her 10-month old baby in her arms to avoid molestation. She was allegedly threatened of gangrape by a 12 of her co-passenger who were inebriated. The incident happened in West Bengal's Alipurduar.
The woman suffered multiple injuries and is undergoing treatment at the railway hospital at Alipurduar. According to the police, the couple walked about 2 kilometers in the dense forest before they could reach Rajabhatkhawa railway station from where they were taken to the Alipurduar railway station.
The couple belong to Dinhata in Coochbehar district and had boarded the train at Ghaziabad where they work in a brick kiln. Mukul Chandra Medhi, the additional security commissioner of Railway Protection Force (RPF) said,"An enquiry has been started and a manhunt to nab the culprits has been launched with the help of local police."
It was alleged that 10-12 passengers, all youngsters, had started harassing the woman from the start of the journey. However, it became aggressive when most of the passengers disembarked at Siliguri. According to the couple, the RPF had also got down at Alipurduar. When they tried complaining to the guard, the men threatened to tie the man and gangrape the woman in front of him.
We jumped out of the running train out of fear," police quoted the woman as saying.
