With Durga, Indians celebrate Bathukamma festival too

Bangalore, Oct 5:The month of Ashwin in the Hindu calender is a time of festivals, especially Durga Puja, which celebrates the power of Shakti. Celebrations start for another form of Shakti-the Bathukamma who is the giver of life. Celebrated mostly by the women of Telangana region of undivided Andhra Pradesh, the festival witnesses food and decorations galore.

Celebrted during tehe nine days of Durga Navratri, it is marked by a ritualistic 7-layered stacks of flowers arranged in concentric circles, which signifies the pyramid of life. Women at this time dress up in traditional pattu sarees and wear different kind of jeweleries.
