With 7 MLAs on his side, why is OPS smiling and not Sasikala

He has seven MLAs with him. She has 127 on her side. The gap is humongous and yet O Panneerselvam is smiling and Sasikala is not. All OPS needs is another ten MLAs on his side and that would ensure a defeat for Sasikala if a floor test is held.

The Governor was contemplating holding a simultaneous floor test to give both OPS and Sasikala a chance. Both have said that they have the numbers.

O Panneerselvam and Sasikala

Looking at the developments in Tamil Nadu it becomes clear that OPS has nothing to lose. If ten MLAs back him, then he ensures that Sasikala loses the floor test. Expecting the Congress or DMK to back her would be wishful thinking. There is a better chance of a Congress or DMK backing an OPS.

Sasikala needs 117 MLAs to form the government. Currently she has with her 127. If she loses ten more MLAs then she will fail the floor test. This would mean that the House will be placed under suspended animation forcing early polls in Tamil Nadu.

[So what does OPS need to pull the rug from under Sasikala?]

Does OPS stand a chance of leading a party to victory if polls are held? Unlikely and pollsters say that it would be a DMK sweep in the state. There were indications earlier that the DMK may give outside support to OPS if he manages to rope in more MLAs on his side.

However with four years to go for the elections, the math does not add up for the DMK. Why will the DMK back OPS for four years when they could instead force an election and win it, pollsters question.
