Shimla, Feb 24: At a time when political arena is abuzz with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's sudden sabbatical, his sister Priyanka Vadra has reportedly requested Himachal Pradesh government not to share her property details for that might put her life in danger.
Bhattacharya, in his RTI query, had sought copies of land records for Priyanka Vadra's properties. The records sought by the activist include those on registration-cum-sale deed, status of the land and the permission granted under Section 118 of the HP Land and Tenancy Act. Acting on the application, the additional district magistrate (ADM) of Shimla on July 21, 2014, had asked the tehsildar of Shimla (Rural) to provide the information. However, in August 2014, the ADM changed his views, the report added.
"On 6th August of 2014, the ADM took a U-turn and issued notice to Kehar Singh Khachi, the special power of attorney (SPA) on record of Priyanka Gandhi, and sought his approval for providing the information. In the meantime, the tehsildar also sought fees for providing 30 pages of information on 7th August 2014," Bhattacharya was quoted by the report as saying.
Notably, Priyanka's husband Robert Vadra's Skylight Hospitality is facing allegations of illegal transactions with construction major DLF in states of Haryana and Rajasthan. Vadra's firm had been under the scanner for a long time.
Previous Congress governments in Haryana and Rajasthan were accused of giving undue favours to Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra, which cost Congress dearly in state polls in both the states.
This fresh development will certainly give fresh ammunition to the opposition BJP in Himachal Pradesh to target Virbhadra Singh government for giving favours to Sonia Gandhi's daughter.
