Why no IT raids at Koovathur when AIADMK MLAs were lodged, asks Stalin
Officials of the Income Tax department carried out searches at a resort in Bengaluru where Congress MLAs from Gujarat have been lodged.
Reacting to the raids at properties belonging to Congress leader D K Shivakumar and a resort in Bengaluru, DMK's working President M K Stalin asked why such action was not taken at Kuvathoor resort. Stalin lashed out at the Income tax department for not reacting to AIADMK MLAs being lodged at a resort in Kuvathoor in February this year by Sasikala's aides.
"The Income Tax department that raided a resort in Bengaluru was a spectator during the Kuvathoor incident. Why? When more than 100 AIADMK MLAs were being held in Koovathur and bribed why was no action initiated?" asked M K Stalin on Wednesday. His questions came even as the Income Tax department clarified that the raids at a resort in the outskirts of Bengaluru had nothing to do with the Congress MLAs from Gujarat.

DMK, the Congress' ally in Tamil Nadu lashed out at the BJP-led central government for using central agencies against political opponents. "Stalin accused the NDA government of double standards on issues of tackling corruption. "It comes as a shock that the IT department and the Enforcement Directorate have become subservient to the Centre. Raids on a specific section or party cannot be accepted," he Stalin.
M K Stalin's questions were based on reports, including a sting operation, where AIADMK MLAs admitted to having been offered bribes to support Sasikala faction of the AIADMK. A host of AIADMK MLAs had been taken to a resort in Kuvathoor in the outskirts of Chennai city in February after the party split between Sasikala and Panneerselvam.
