Why appointing a CRPF head should be government's top priority
A panel of IPS officers has been prepared for the same, but there has been no finality on the issue as yet.
There is no word from the government on the appointment of a new Central Reserve Police Force chief. The CRPF, which was a victim of a brutal Naxal attack in which 26 jawans died has been headless for the past two months now.
Home Ministry sources say that the appointment of a new director-general would happen soon, but CRPF officials say that there is no official word on it as yet. In the absence of a chief, the CRPF has faced two major attacks in which nearly 40 of its personnel have been killed.
After K Durga Prasad retired as the chief, the Home ministry had appointed Sudeep Lakhtaki to hold additional in the additional capacity. Currently, the Home ministry is looking for an eligible chief. A panel of IPS officers has been prepared, but there has been no finality on the issue as yet.
The absence of a chief has hurt the CRPF bad. While the day to day affairs are handled by the respective heads of battalions, the problems begins when it comes to policy decisions. Only a full-time chief can take important policy decisions and this helps in crunch situations.
