New Delhi, May 20: Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday faced embarrassing moment after he faced a power cut during live press conference. Reportedly, while Goyal was justifying government's initiatives on the issue, electricity went off twice.
Press conference was corganised to mark the completion of two years of the Modi government.
When electricity went off for the first time, red-faced Minister said, "I think I mentioned last time that my wife tells me that power should go off once in every program that I hold so that I can be sure that I have miles to go before I rest and sleep. I don't know if now they've made it a practice because of her guidance or it is actually gone".
Speaking on the occasion, Minister explained how Government has taken steps to make electricity available to all. He said that government is planning to launch a scheme under which consumers can pay for the new connection in monthly installments over a period of 5 years and will be able to avail the service on demand.
"We are thinking of launching a campaign to make it compulsory to provide electricity connection to all. We want to provide this facility to everyone that if he or she asks for electricity connection then it must be provided" Goyal said.
Goyal also advocated cross-subsidisation of power tariff and said, "Indian farmer deserves to get low cost power. We support cross subsidisation by larger commercial or industrial establishment for other consumers."
