WhatsApp talaq: Man based in Riyadh divorces wife in Hyderabad

Ibraheem was married to Mudassir Ahmed Khan in February 2016 and she received a divorce message through Whatsapp after six months.

Triple Talaq has become the major issue in the country. One more case of triple talaq through Whatsapp has come in to light in Hyderabad.

Badar Ibraheem, an MBA graduate was married to Mudassir Ahmed Khan, a resident of Tolichowki in February, 2016. Khan works in Riyadh in an investment bank as a software analyst.

Khan stayed in Hyderabad for 20 days with his wife and later he left for Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. Everything was fine for six months until she got a talaq message on whatsapp in September.

After seeing the message, Ibraheem went to her in-laws home where she was not allowed to enter the house. She was told that the marriage was an accident. Days later, Ibraheem received a Talaaqnama or divorce papers along with a legal notice.

Even when insisted to know the reason behind the divorce, Khan parents did not respond after which she filed a police complaint but till now police did not take any action against them.

Ibraheem says that the government should bring a strict law against the misuse of triple talaq. She also said that such people should be jailed and the court shouldn't even release them on bail.
