Tumkur, March 10: District administration has raked up big controversy by taking over historical Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi temple in Koratagere taluk in Tumkur district. Madhugiri sub-divisional officer Anitha Lakshmi has been appointed as the administrator.
Tumkur district collector Sathyamurthy has passed an order to impound all the movable and immovable properties belonging to the temple and the trust.
For this, temple trust president Srirangaiah has expressed dissatisfaction by saying, "no notice has been issued before taking over
and the trust would knock the court door for justice".
But, the district administration has already seized Rs 14 lakh currency, 8.14 kg gold and 90 kg silver from the temple 'hundi' and trust locker. Still search is on to find out exact value of properties belonging to the temple.
For the past 30 years, after the temple was built, a trust with 14 'Dharmadarshis' was formed to look after the administration of the temple.
It was alleged that the outsiders were conspiring to hand over the temple to some other influential 'Math'. It was also alleged that money was also being misused by the trust. In fact, just a few days ago, the locals had locked the office. After all these malpractices, Tumkur district admin decided to take over the temple administration. The district administration has been strongly
condemned by the local women who insist that the temple should be run by the trust only and not the government.
