The preliminary probe into the horrific Patna-Indore express mishap by the Indian Railways points to sudden jerk as the official cause of the accident.

The preliminary probe also indicates the location as Jhansi-Kanpur intersection. The accident which has so far claimed 95 lives and has injured over 150 of passengers has been classified as consequential train accident with the reports of 14 coaches derailed or capsized.
The preliminary probe will only act as reference point for detailed probe by the ministry. As of now rescue operations are underway with additional forces of NDRF from Kanpur.
