We are a family, someone is trying to break us: Karnataka police chief on mass leave threat

Bengaluru, June 2: The police chief of Karnataka Omprakash said that external elements are looking to cause a rift in the department.

He was addressing the media at his office in Bengaluru in the wake of several police constables threatening to go on mass leave to protest against bad working conditions and a low pay scale.

Someone trying to break us: Kar top cop

Omprakash said that the protest will not take place and none will go on mass leave on June 4th. The police force is one big family and someone from outside is trying to break it he said. He said that the top officials have been coordinating on this issue and have taken stock of the situation.

He further noted that there are external elements who are trying to break the family. However our officers have not given into it. He further said if these elements are trying to break the discipline in the force it will be dealt with an iron fist.

The police chief also said that Shashidhar Venugopal, the president of the Akhila Karnataka Mahasangha which is organising the protest had been arrested. The DGP said he is a dismissed constable a self proclaimed leader.

Further he also informed that Shashidhar had been arrested under the provisions of Section 124 (A) of the Indian Penal Code which deals with sedition.
