Water levels at Harangi, Kabini reservoirs rise as rain batters Kodagu in Karnataka
Reservoirs and dams in the Kodagu-Mysuru region are nearing full capacity as a result of incessant rains.
Continuous heavy rains in Kodagu district of Karnataka has led to the sudden rise of water levels at Harangi and Kabini dams. Many places in Kodagu district have been inundated as a result of two days of heavy rains. Schools remained closed on Thursday as precautionary measures.
Harangi, Kabini reservoirs near full capacity
Water level at Harangi dam rose to 2,844.45 ft while its maximum capacity is 2859 ft. The dam needs only 14,55 ft water to reach full capacity. Kabini dam near Mysuru also is almost full with water levels rising to 2266.94 ft as against the maximum capacity of 2284 ft.
Parts of Kodagu submerged
Incessant rains in the last 48 hours inundated parts of Kodagu including Bhagamandala, Ayyangeri. The Balamuri bridge was submerged in water on Wednesday. The Madikeri -Talacauvery link roads were waterlogged while entry to Brahmagiri has been restricted due to heavy rains.

The water level in Harangi dam near Somwarpet of Kodagu rose by 4 feet in a single day on Wednesday. The average rainfall of 79.36 mm was recorded from 8 AM on Wednesday alone in Kodagu. Houses along the Cauvery river banks face the threat of inundation and have sought the district administration's help.
Cauvery is roaring
The river is flowing in full spate near Siddapur, Nelyahudikeri and Kushalnagar. Maximum rainfall was witnessed in Napoklu, Madikeri, Sampaje and Shantalli. Another three days of such rains and all reservoirs along the belt will reach to full capacity.
