A note that Italian prosecutors have produced in court allege that middleman Christian Michel played a vital role in fixing the deal and also indicated the involvement of the closest advisers to Sonia Gandhi.
This explosive note, exposed by an exclusive report by the IndianExpress, was sent by Christian Michel to Peter Hulett, who was the Head of Region, Govt Sales at the AgustaWestland office. This is one of the many documents that were found in the office of middleman Guido Haschke, currently facing trial in the case of 51 million euro kickbacks generated in the high-profile Indian scam.
The note clearly named them-Manmohan Singh, Ahmed Patel, Pranab Mukherjee, M. Veerappa Moily, Oscar Fernandes, M.K. Narayanan, and Vinay Singh-further stating:
"As Mrs Gandhi is the driving force behind the VIP, she will not fly any more in the Mi 8. Mrs Gandhi and her closest advisers are the people the High Commissioner should target."
That is not all, an Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano has reported that the prosecuots produced a photograph of Sonia Gandhi and Ahmed Patel during the hearing of Haschke, but the middleman recognised only Ms Gandhi.
