Viral Video Shocker: Distressed DD anchor breaks silence

New Delhi, Dec 1: "My daughter is deeply traumatised," said father of the 25-year-old anchor who hosted a Live event for Doordarshan (DD) News during the inaugural ceremony of International Film Festival of India 2014 in Goa.

The young girl has become a soft target for people on social media where a video went viral showing the girl hosting the show. She has been ridiculed on Facebook, Twitter. Now, it has been reported that the girl has been showing suicidal tendency following such humiliation.

In the video posted on YouTube, the DD anchor is seen introducing the Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha as the "Governor of India". She also misidentifies the governor's gender.

Expressing his disappointment with people of the country, father of the girl was quoted as saying, Thousands of people have called her things like ‘stupid' or ‘dumb', or ruthlessly ridiculed her on the social media. My daughter is deeply traumatised."

The girl said, "My career has been ruined. I am so distressed I have not eaten in four days." Meanwhile, media report claimed that her family approached the cyber crime department and urged them to take stern action against them who uploaded the video on the social media.

What led to her nervousness, explains the anchor:

Speaking to Times of India, the girl informed that her instruction mic failed at the last minute before the programme went Live. The girl was quoted as saying, "I was so nervous. I could not turn my head to see who was coming, and my producer could not convey the names of dignitaries."

"So I introduced as few people as possible, hoping the audience would recognize them anyway," she added.
Doordarshan's reaction:

A senior official informed that the anchor is a casual employee of the channel. He observed that she was not fully preparedto carry out the Live presentation and at moments appeared "clueless". The programme was broadcasted on Nov 20.

Meanwhile, Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar told that the public broadcaster was looking into the matter and "gaffes" cannot be allowed to go on.
