Vijaywada, Jan 25: A 22-year old engineering college student allegedly committed suicide in Vijaywada late on Saturday night for failing to clear several subjects in the second and third year of college.
Puvvala Prem Prasad, a fourth year student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, ended his life by hanging himself in his hostel room. He is said to have not left any suicide note behind.
Nova college director-J. Srinivasa Rao- said that Prasad neither attended college regularly nor cleared his backlog subjects of the previous three years. Prem's brother Pavan Prasad said that only two days back he was with his brother and he appeared fine.
He further added,"We don't know what had happened in college or the hostel. We all are in a shock. He was a very hard working boy who aimed for a huge success in life."
In a similar incident, a 2nd year engineering student from Anna University died after falling from the terrace of a multi-storied building in the college premises on Sunday night. The victim-Shanmuga Preetha (19)-was a B.Tech Ceramic Technology student at the Guindy College of Engineering. The incident happened at 11:30 pm. POlice is yet to ascertain whether she committed suicide or fell accidentally while talking over the mobile phone.
