VHP backs Sakshi Maharaj, pledges financial reward to families with 4 kids

Kanpur, Jan 13: The BJP may have sent a showcause notice to its lawmaker Sakshi Maharaj in response to his recent remark asking Hindus to bear four children for the safety of religion, but seems Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has other ideas.

VHP backs Sakshi Maharaj
Taking the Unnao MP's remark seriously, the far right group (VHP) has come out in its full support and has even announced to reward and support the Hindu families that will give birth to four children.

As per ANI, drawing in line with Sakshi Maharaj and Sadhvi Prachi VHP leader Kushal Pal Singh on Tuesday announced financial reward and support to families with four kids.

"The VHP will raise awareness on the issue and will work to provide employment, educational and other opportunities to them," Singh said.

VHP's statement comes even after the BJP sent a showcause notice to Sakshi Maharaj on his remark that have sparked a controversy and he was expected to reply within ten days.

The four-children remark caused a massive uproar and opponents sought explanation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

An embarrassed BJP jumped into the ring to control the damage and said it was Shakshi Maharaj's personal opinion and asked its workers to back the good work done by the government and not get involved in unnecessary controversies.

The MP, however, remained unapologetic and said "Raat gayi, baat gayi" (whatever is said is gone).

Earlier on Sunday, another BJP leader Sadhvi Prachi backed Sakshi Maharaj's remark at a VHP conclave.

Addressing a gathering at Vishwa Hindu Parishad's Virat Hindu conclave in Bhilwara BJP leader Sadhvi Prachi said, "A lion doesn't have just one child... we also need four children in each family. One will fight the enemies on the border, give one to saints, give another to VHP for social work."

The BJP has struggled to contain its extreme right-wing members from making loose remarks in the open and stirring controversy.
