Congress sycophancy? Veteran party leader V Narayansamy holds slippers for Rahul Gandhi
Puducherry, Dec 9: A senior Congress leader and ex-union minister V Narayansamy on Tuesday was seen holding slippers for his party's vice president Rahul Gandhi, when later visited the flood-ravaged Puducherry.
In a video doing the rounds on TV news channels, the veteran Congress leader could be seen holding the slippers while Congress vice president removed his shoes to walk in flooded area.
"As a courtesy I offered my chappals as Rahul Gandhi removed his shoes to walk barefoot in the water," the 68-year-old Congress veteran was quoted by ABP news as saying.
"We don't have such (sycophancy) a culture in the Congress. Rahul carried his shoes throughout and he didn't even let his security personnel carry them for him," the leader added.
Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday visited rain-ravaged parts of Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry and sought speedy action to ameliorate the suffering of the people, saying politics should not be done over relief work.
The Centre and state government needs to be "much more responsive" to the suffering of the people and take action as fast as possible, he told reporters after winding up his tour. Gandhi said the people of Tamil Nadu, especially those in Chennai, were suffering.
