In 2003, the case had to be shifted to a special court in Bangalore following a Supreme Court order on a petition filed by Anbazhagan, a leader of the Opposition DMK, saying unbiased judicial proceedings were not possible in Tamil Nadu after Jayalalithaa's return to power.
