Satpal Maharaj, Prakash Pant and Trivendra Singh are the top contenders from the BJP to become the next Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Sources tell OneIndia that while the three names are under consideration, it will be Maharaj who is most likely to be appointed as the next CM of Uttarakhand.
Maharaj is the RSS' choice, but there are some within the BJP who are opposed to him being appointed the next CM. Maharaj who campaigned vigorously for the BJP had crossed over to the party just before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
If Maharaj does not make it as the CM, the next choice would be Singh as he is close to both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. Several leaders in the BJP too favour Singh to Maharaj, sources also said.
Observers however point out that Pant cannot be ruled out. He was invited on Sunday for the Parliamentary Board meeting of the BJP. This gave an indication that he too is a frontrunner to the post of Uttarakhand CM, observers also point out.
