Uttarakhand: Nestle takes down employees with it, one commits suicide after being laid off
Rudrapur, June 16: While a leading newspaper revealed that Nestle had asked 1100 of its contract workers to 'sit at home' after High Court had banned Maggi for 90 days, another shocking news came as an aftereffect.
32-year old Lalta Prasad from Uttar Pradesh committed suicide by hanging from the fan in his hme, unable to bear unemployment Prasad had been working at the plant located at the State Industrial Development Corporation Uttarakhand Ltd in Rudrapur, 70 km from Nainital, since the last two years.
However, the police is yet to ascertain the actual cause of the death as he also had some family issues. His wife realised that he had committed suicide when he did not open the door of the room on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand government has asked the state government to submit a report after Maggi samples failed to pass the tests. The hearing is scheduled on June 20. The High Court in its JUne 3 order had strictly banned the sale, production, stocking and distribution of the noodles in the state.
