The BJP's parliamentary board is yet to take a call on the matter. The party says that the victory was thanks to a Modi wave in the state and hence it would be Delhi which will take the final call on the matter.
The BJP won a landslide victory in Uttarakhand. It bagged 56 out of the 70 seats and dislodged Harish Rawat of the Congress. Sources tell OneIndia that the BJP is likely to go in for a new name who would have to deliver clean governance. The final call would however be taken by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
There are many factors that are at play. Take for instance the case of Maharaj who is close to the RSS. He is however being opposed by some within the BJP. Maharaj who campaigned vigorously for the BJP had crossed over to the party just before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
If Maharaj does not make it as the CM, the next choice would be Singh as he is close to both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. Several leaders in the BJP too favour SIngh to Maharaj, sources also said.
Observers however point out that Pant cannot be ruled out. He was invited on Sunday for the Parliamentary Board meeting of the BJP. This gave an indication that he too is a frontrunner to the post of Uttarakhand CM, observers also point out.
