Uri attack: Guides who 'helped' terrorits set to walk free
The two persons who earlier confessed to helping the terrorists are being let go because of lack of evidence
Two guides from Pakistan occupied Kashmir are set walk free after the National Investigation Agency filed a closure report in the Uri attack case. The NIA had arrested Faisal Hussain and Ahsan Khursheed on the charge that they had helped the terrorists carry out the attack on an army camp at Uri, Jammu and Kashmir on September 18, 2016.
The duo were arrested three days after the attack. After the arrest they made a confessional statement admitting to helping the terrorists. However, investigations conducted by the NIA could not find enough evidence to link them to the attack. Moreover, the NIA was unable to corroborate the confessional statement.
The closure report will now be submitted to the court. Once the court approves of the same, the duo will walk free. Their return formalities will then be finalised by the ministry for External Affairs.
After the attack, the police had claimed that the same was carried out by the Jaish-e-Mohammad. However further investigations showed that the Jaish had no role to play in the attack. It was an attack carried out by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, the NIA had said. In October 2016, the Lashkar-e-Tayiba held a special prayer for those terrorists killed in the attack. The prayer service was held at Gujranwala in Pakistan.
