LS poll 2014: Record turnout in phase 3

New Delhi, April 10: The third phase of the Lok Sabha election 2014 will be held in 11 states and three Union Territories (UTs) on Thursday.

Delhi (7 seats), Odisha (10 seats), Jharkhand (4 seats), Andamans, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Jammu and Kashmir and Chhattisgarh (1 seat each), Madhya Pradesh (9 seats), Maharashtra (10 seats), Uttar Pradesh (10 seats), Kerala (20 seats), Haryana (10 seats) and Bihar (6 seats) will go the elections today. Election in the Hazaribagh seat in Jharkhand was postponed owing to the Ram Navami celebrations.

7.17 pm:

Maharashtra saw 56% polling. In 2009, it saw 55.7% polling. Kerala saw 75% polling. Last time, it was 73.52% in the southern state. Jharkhand saw 58% polling. Last time, it was 50.9%. MP saw 66% polling. Last time, it was 53.66%. Jammu and Kashmir saw 65% polling. In 2009, the figure was 49%.

7.11 pm:

64% polling in Delhi. In 2009, it was 51.85%

7.10 pm:

55% polling in Bihar. In 2009, it was 41.64%

7.03 pm:

69% polling recorded in Haryana. In 2009, it was 67.5%.

6.55 pm:

67.78% turnout recorded in Muzaffarnagar in western UP. In 2009, it was 54.37%. UP saw 65% polling. Last time it was 51.3%.

6.50 pm:

69% turnout recorded in Chandigarh. In 2009, it was 65.5%.

6:20 pm:

Nearly 76% polling was recorded in six booths of three Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam where repolling was ordered due to voting machine malfunctioning. Jorhat registered 74 percent turnout, Dibrugarh 74.8 percent and Tezpur 74.6 percent.

6:15 pm:

Polling was suspended for for a short while in a polling station in Azad Nagar area of Hisar parliamentary constituency after supporters of INLD and HJC clashed. At least eight persons including HJC candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi were injured.

6.08 pm:

Naxals snatch 4 EVMs from a returning polling party in Malkangiri, Odisha.

6.01 pm:

Voting ends in 91 seats except a few seats in Kerala where timings were extended due to rains. Haryana recorded 67 per cent of voter turnout till 5.50 pm.

5.56 pm:

Riot hit Muzaffarnagar recorded 55 per cent voter turnout till 5 pm.

5.21 pm:

Delhi registered 60 per cent voter turnout till 5 pm. If the trend continues by closing time Delhi may even cross its 2013 Assembly voter turnout which was 65.6 per cent. Meanwhile Kerala registered 70 per cent voter turnout till 5 pm.

Voter turnout in Delhi Lok Sabha seats till 5pm is as follows-

5.06 pm:

Till 5 pm, Gurgaon registered 60 per cent voter turnout. 60.1 per cent voter turnout was registered in Haryana till 5 pm. 57 per cent voting was recorded in Ghaziabad.

4.45 pm:

Polling was disrupted at booth no. 158 in Karnal parliamentary constituency in UP for over an hour after voters protested against a faulty EVM.Riots victims came out and voted for a change. Muzaffarnagar recorded votes upto 56 per cent till 3 pm.

4.26 pm:

According to latest reports, Kerela has registered 63.9 per cent votes till 4pm, Madhya Pradesh registers 52 per cent. 57.6 per cent of votes was recorded in Haryana till 4 pm.

4.08 pm:

Reports are suggesting that clashes have erupted between INLD and HJC workers.

3.57pm:

Latest news inputs suggest that as of 3.30 pm Chandigarh registered 53 per cent votes, Kerala registered 57.3 percent votes, Haryana registered 56.3 per cent votes and Odisha registered 58 per cent votes.

3.48 pm:

According to reports, Delhi recorded 52 per cent of voting till 3 pm. Delhi voters surpassed the voting percentage of 2009 elections. Voting in 7 seats in Delhi as of 3 pm is as follows-

Chandni Chowk- 49%

East- 52%

New Delhi- 52%

North East- 55%

North west- 51%

South- 50%

West- 54%

3.40 pm:

According to reports following is the voting percentage for the 6 states till 3 pm-

Bihar - 37.44%

Haryana - 42.77%

J&K - 49.46 %

MP - 42.30 % till 3.36 pm

Maharashtra - 30.88 %

3.25 pm:

According to reports, Gurgaon records 47.8 per cent of votes till 3 pm, while 54.24 per cent voter turnout in Kerala till 3 pm.

Reports also suggested that AAP party workers protested said that AAP votes could not be registered in Erankulam constituency. AAP workers alleged that the voting machine in booth number 118 at Kalamassery polytechnic college was not recording the votes being casted for AAP.

3.22 pm:

Former BJP leader Jaswant Singh today said that he had closed the doors on BJP. "I won't return to BJP," he told Times Now.

According to latest reports, Naxals loot EVM from polling booth in Koraput in Odisha. Meanwhile in Bihar the voting percentage was nearly 32 per cent.

2.38 pm:

According to latest reports, Odisha recorded 45 per cent of voting till 1.45 pm. In Kerala the voter turn out was 51.1 per cent and in Madhya Pradesh the voter turnout was 35 per cent till 2 pm.

2.00 pm:

Low polling turn-around in Gurgaon in Haryana. Only 12.5% polling registered till noon. Meanwhile 30% of electorate cast votes till noon even as Naxals opened fire on security forces near 10 polling booths in Chhattisgarh's Bastar seat.

1.22 pm:

According to latest reports, Delhi recorded 40 per cent voter turnout till 1 pm while Kerala recorded 50 per cent till 1 pm. 30 per cent voting was recorded in Andaman and Nicobar Island, 28 per cent in Bihar and 42 per cent in Muzaffarnagar till 1 pm. Madhya Pradesh registered 27.58 per cent voting till 1 pm. 35 percent was recorded in Ghaziabad and Haryana respectively till 1 pm.

1.04 pm:

According to Times Now, 40 per cent of voters showed up in Kerala and 30 per cent turned out in Haryana till 12.30 pm. Odisha recorded 40 per cent voter turnout. 35.8 per cent people vote in Jharkhand till 1 pm.

12.53 pm:

According to reports, voters in Delhi are unhappy since they are not allowed to take their phones inside the polling booths. Meanwhile Delhi Congress chief Arvind Singh Lovely cast his vote along with his wife.

12.41pm:

SP leader Azam KHan today again raked up a controversy after he made a statement. Azam said: "Vote for revenge against murderers of Muzaffarnagar.

11.49 am:

Confident of surprising people in Haryana, AAP's candidate from Gurgaon, Yogendra Yadav said that the party is taking its first step in Haryana and will surprise everybody.

Meanwhile voting percentage in UP till 11 am is as follows- Muzaffarnagar 27.28%, Saharanpur 33.55%, Kairana 27.70%, Bijnor 26.41%, Ghaziabad 22.10%, Aligarh 21%, Meerut 25%.

In Madhya Pradesh the voting was recorded over 15 per cent till 11 am.

11.41 am:

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh was allegedly attacked by some unknown people at a polling booth. Singh is contesting from Baghpat.

11.37 am:

Delhi recorded 25 per cent of votes till 11 am. Meanwhile in Lucknow 25.24 per cent of polling was recorded till 11 am.

11.21 am:

Priyanka Gandhi arrived in New Delhi to cast her vote along with her husband Robert Vadra.

11.14 am:

Kerala registered 30 per cent voting till 11 am, while in Jharkhand the voter turnout was 12 per cent till 11 am. In Ghaziabad the voter turnout was 22 per cent till 11 am. Muzaffarnagar records 27.28 per cent voting till 11 am.

11.07 am:

Congress candidate from Ghaziabad Raj Babbar was confident of his party's win. He denied Modi wave and said that there was no such thing.

BJP candidate from Chandigarh Kirron Kher today said that she was confident of the support that people had shown her party. "Everybody must vote for the right candidate. If you do not vote then you shouldn't grumble that the government didn't do anything for us," she said.

Meanwhile, 13 per cent voting was recorded from Haryana, till 10 am.

10.26 am:

According to TV reports, 16 per cent of voting has been recorded in Kerala till 10 am.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal arrived at Tilak Marg to cast his vote, while Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi arrived at Nirman Bhavan to cast his vote. Kejriwal urged the people to go out and cast their votes.Meanwhile Rahul told reporters that he was confident of Congress's victory.

12 per cent voting has been recorded from Jammu and Kashmir till 9 am, while 7.5 per cent voting has been recorded in Gurgaon till 9 am. 11 per cent voting has been recorded from Chandigarh till 9.30 am. 16 per cent voting has been recorded in Kerala till 9 am.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi arrived at Nirman Bhavan to cast her vote. She was accompanied by Ajay Maken.

According to some TV reports, polling has stopped at a booth in Gaya, Bihar after officials recover cane bomb in the premises.

Around 1.7 million voters will elect their Lok Sabha member from 2,271 polling stations in the four districts of Jammu, Samba, Poonch and Rajouri. Long queues are seen outside polling booths in Jammu.

People queued up at polling booths across Kerala to cast their vote for the state's 20 Lok Sabha constituencies.

The zeal to hit the voting button was evident across the state since Thursday morning as people turned up at the polling centres even before the start of polling time at 7 a.m.

In the 2009 general elections, state had recorded 73.37 percent voter turnout.

8.25 am:

Polling underway in Chhattisgarh's Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, one of India's worst insurgency-hit regions.

Over 1.29 million voters will decide the fate of eight candidates in the constituency where roughly 80 percent of the total 1,797 polling booths have been declared "ultra sensitive".

Bastar, which is made up of six assembly segments, has more female voters at 665,290 than 633,681 male voters.

Polling underway in Maharashtra. Ten seats are going to the polling today and 1.22 crore people will cast their votes. Two-hundred and one candidates in fray in the state. Nagpur has 33 candidates in fray while Akola has seven.

7.36 am:

RSS chief Mohan Bhgwat casts his vote in Nagpur.

7.35 am:

Polling begins in Lakshadweep. The lone LS seat in Lakshadweep has 44 polling booths. Six contestants are in the fray, including sitting Congress MP, Hamdullah Sayeed, son of former Union minister, late P M Sayeed and P P Mohammed Faisal of NCP.

The other candidates are: Dr Abdul Muneer ((CPI-M), Koya Komalam (Samajwadi Party), M P Sayeed Mohammed Koya (BJP), C T Najumudeen (CPI).

An electorate of 49,821, including 25,342 men will cast their votes during the polling which began at 7 am. There are 101 service voters, 10 of them being women. The polling station in Bitra island has only 233 voters.
