Ahmedabad, Sept 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 64th birthday coincided with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping's visit to Ahmedabad. In a step to give India-China bilateral relations a new direction, Modi and Jinping signed three crucial memorandum of understanding pertaining to trade and business.

Day 3 (September 19):

12.10 pm: Chinese President Xi Jinping departs from Delhi as his 3-day India visit ends.

11.50 pm: Chinese President Xi Jinping meets Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her deputy Rahul Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh.

11.30 am: Chinese troops begin withdrawing from Indian territory hours after Xi-Modi meet.

11.00 am: Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to meet Congress delegation led by Sonia Gandhi.

10.00 am: Massive protests break out in the capital as Tibetans groups protest Xi Jinping's visit.

Day 2 (September 18):

10:00 pm: Indian President meets Chinese president.

2.31 pm: India and China are important neighbours to each other, said Chinese President Xi Jinping today. "There have been a few incidents along the Indo-China border due to unclear demarcations. This must be settled soon," he said.

Jinping said: "2015 to be observed as 'Visit India' year in China. I thank Rashtrapati Bhavan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the warm reception in India."

"We have discussed all aspects of India-China ties in Ahmedabad and New Delhi," Modi said. Peace at border is of utmost importance. Important to build trust and belief in mutual relations, Modi said.

"I invited investment in infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. I am glad 2 Chinese industrial parks will be built in India," PM Modi.

7:30 pm: Dinner begins, Jinping enjoys Gujarati cuisine

6:33 pm: The gala dinner at the Sabarmati riverbank to begin soon.

6:20 pm:

6:00 pm: Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping arrive at the Sabarmati riverbank; PM shows him around, describing what all went into making the embankment.

6:00 pm: Cultural programme underway, while Chinese first lady enjoys herself with the traditional dance and songs.

5:45 pm: The two premiers are on their way out of the Ashram; Jinping signs the log book and gives feedback; Modi presents the original replica of the felicitation to the Chinese President, apart from some Gujrati mementos.

5:30 pm: Chinese first lady arrives at the dinner venue; Japanese media core the ashram.

5:29 pm: Jinping garlands Mahatma Gandhi's photo after having a look at the original felicitation letter received by Mahatma Gandhi presented by the Chinese Community in South Africa.

5:13 pm: Chinese President reaches Sabarmati Ashram. Modi shows him around the Ashram. Jinping has changed to an attire suitable for the warm climate of Ahmedabad. The duo will be spending around 20 minutes here.

Gala evening planned across the Sabarmati Ashram, which will include Gujrati cultural programs and food.
