#ThankYouTeacher trends on Twitter; In UP, teachers to embrace Islam if not given salary hike!
Lucknow, Sept 3: As the nation is set to celebrate Teachers' Day on Saturday, Sept 5, some teachers in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh are not happy with their salaries.
In a bizarre demand, sulking teachers have threatened to embrace Islam if their salaries are not hiked.
The shocking incident has been reported from Kastoorba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), where part-time Hindi and Sanskrit teachers have gone on protest over salary raise.
Teachers, who have alleged discrimination from the state government, said that the "salary of permanent teachers and part-time Urdu teachers was increased substantially, but the salary of Hindi and Sanskrit teachers was reduced to Rs 5,000 per month from Rs 7,200 per month, in 2014."
Desh Deepak Dubey, a local representative of the KGBV Part-Time Teachers Association, was quoted saying as to the TOI, "We have decided to demonstrate at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on September 14 and convert to Islam if our demands are not met."
Around 3,000 part-time teachers from 746 KGBV centres are expected to take part in the agitation, if their demands are not met.
