UP Legislative Assembly starts on stormy note, Akhilesh Govt slams opposition

Lucknow, Nov 14: Pandemonium marked the first day of the winter session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday with opposition staging a walkout and stalling proceedings leading to the adjournment of the House.

As soon as the House assembled, Leader of Opposition and BSP member Swami Prasad Maurya demanded immediate taking up of law and order situation and plight of sugarcane farmers, relaxing all rules even as BJP-RLD members trooped into the well of the House carrying placards with anti-government slogans written on them.

As the BSP members staged a walkout when their demand was not met, BJP sat on a dharna in the well of the House.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan charged opposition parties saying "they have noting to do.. They are just wasting the time of the house".

Terming the members of the opposition parties as "nikkama" (idle) he alleged that "yeh sadan ki karyavahi par jhadu pher rahe hain".

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey adjourn the House for 20 minutes two times.

The scene was no different even when the House reassembled. Though the BSP returned to the House, BJP members continued their sit-in in the well leading to disorder.

As all appeals of the Speaker failed to restore order, he rushed through the agenda for the day and adjourned the House for the day wrapping up the day's proceedings in about 45 minutes.

The Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day after taking up obiturary references to one of its sitting and three former members.

The House paid tributes and observed two minutes silence on the demise of sitting independent member Jagendra Swarup and three former members Raj Kumar Sama, Captain Abbas Ali and Brahma Dutt.
