UP Hatespeech: Sangeet Som gets a red carpet welcome in jail
On allegations of leaking a doctored CD showing the lynching of two Hindu 'Jat' boys in Pakistan (and claiming it to be local) that led to the communal riots in UP, Som was finally arrested and ordered by the Muzaffarnagar High Court to be remanded for 14 days.
Following this, he was brought to the Orai district jail, the jailor and the staff stood at the gate to receive the Sarthana constituency MLA. Even amid tight security, Som was seen waving at his followers, while he was being 'escorted' by the police. IG (Prison) R P Singh too had no qualms over it.
In fact, he said,"Som is still a member of the Vidhana Sabha and as a public representative, he has the right to basic courtesy. But, if there is anything beyond that, it will be looked into." However, DEputy Jailor A A Ansari said that the MLA would not get any additional facility.
Both Som and BJP MLA Suresh Rana (responsible for provocative speeches leading to clashes) were taken to Orai jail, from where Rana was shifted to Banda prison. Som has been booked in two separate cases.
