Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya, Abhishek to get monthly pension of Rs 50, 000?

New Delhi, Oct 21: One must be surprised to know that Uttar Pradesh Government will give fifty thousand pension every month to Bollywood Mahanayak Amitabh Bachchan, his wife Jaya and son Abhisek. The reason being that Akhilesh Yadav led Samajwadi party has decided to give this cash money to all Yash Bharti awardees of the State.

The award is given to eminent persons belonging to the state in the fields of art, culture, sports, literature, medicine, journalism and social service.

Big B to get monthly pension?

On Tuesday, the State Cabinet decided to give life long pension to these actors whenever the SP government will be in the power. In past, after wresting power from SP, Opposition had discontinued the highest award of the State.

"Our government has decided to provide Rs 50 thousand pension to Yash Bharti awardees of the state," Akhilesh Yadav said after a state cabinet meeting.

Reportedly, the cash award is maximum of its kind in the country, more than what freedom fighters and several government official get presently .

TOI quotes, "By comparison, freedom fighters and their spouses are eligible for Rs 20,129 a month, ex-Andaman political pensioners receive Rs 23,309 a month and unmarried and unemployed daughters of freedom fighters receive Rs 4,770 a month".

The award was instituted in the year 1994 and since then around 150 eminent persons from different fields have received it . Reportedly, in its inaugural year, the honour was also given to noted litterateur and Amitabh Bachchan's father Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

Initially the awardees used to get cash amount of 5 lakh but it was increased to 11 lakh in subsequent year. In the starting of this year, Akhilesh government had given honour to 56 eminent persons from art, culture and music. The award was given to film actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Jimmy Shergil, singer Kailash Kher, Rekha Bhardwaj and classical vocalists Pandit Rajan and Sajan Mishra.
