The Jat community has come out in support of the BJP in the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017 which was held on Saturday. UP polled in 73 constituencies on Saturday and it is the Jat votes that hold the key. In fact the Jat votes would be a deciding factor for a new government in Uttar Pradesh.
During the first phase of the polling, it is clear that the Jats have voted in favour of the BJP. The Jats have in the past been upset with both the BSP and the ruling SP government. The community has been a victim of communal parties and have blamed both the BSP and SP for not protecting their interests.
There is a lot of angst among the sugarcane farmers towards the policies of the existing government. Crores of rupees in support have not been paid to them as yet which has led the farmers to be burdened by heavy loans. This has also led to several suicides in the state of UP. These issues have led to a lot of anger among the Jat community. The Jats have also been victims of communal politics which in turn has led to several of them leaving their homes as well. The Jat community has had to deal with severe losses in terms of money and property.
The Jat community has also shown discontentment with the SP-Congress alliance in UP. In fact the Jat community is not interested in a coalition government. They feel that a single party must rule the state so that their interests are protected. This is the reason why they are staying away from the Rashtriya Lok Dal as well. They feel that the RLD may try and enter into a post-poll alliance with either SP and Congress.
The Jats have indicated their clear support to the BJP as they find that party's promises will be fulfilled. In addition to this, the Jat community also says that it is impressed with the BJP's manifesto as they find it to be more lucrative and trustworthy. This has been one of the many reasons why the Jat community has voted for the BJP. They have faith in the BJP as they feel the party will fulfill their needs and also protect their rights.
Looking at all these factors, it becomes clear that the Jat community has gone with the BJP in the UP elections of 2017. The BJP will gain a lot of out of and the party is confident that the support from the Jat community will ensure them victory in the UP assembly elections.
