UP elections 2017: Why phase five will be the decider
In this phase, SP's Prajapati will be contesting against Amit Sinh of the Congress and the BJP's Garima Sinh.
Lucknow, Feb 27: It is being termed as the decider phase. On Monday, polling will be held for 51 seats in 12 districts in the fifth phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2017.
During the last elections, the Samajwadi Party had won 37 seats in this phase while the Congress, BJP won 5 each and the BSP managed just 3. This phase would also be closely watched since polling will be held in Amethi, the Parliamentary constituency that Rahul Gandhi represents. Amethi has five assembly segments under it.
There are 12 districts which will go to polls. As many as 18 million voters will decide the fate of 607 candidates. The key districts apart from Amethi which would poll on Monday are Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich and Shravasti in the Terai region.

One of the most-watched candidates in this phase would be Gayatri Prajapati of the SP. The Supreme Court had ordered filing of rape charges against him. It may be recalled that he had been dropped from the Akhilesh Yadav cabinet on charges of corruption. However, Akhilesh was forced to give him a ticket following pressure from Mulayam Singh Yadav. Prajapati will be contesting against Amit Sinh of the Congress and the BJP's Garima Sinh.
Security is high in several parts of the state which polls on Monday. The Election Commission has worked overtime to ensure that free and fair polling is held. The Central forces also carried out a flag march at the Terai region which is in Nepal foothills.
