UP civic polls: Mayawati to go solo
The BSP supremo also warned party leaders against demanding money from candidates seeking tickets.
Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday announced that her party would fight the coming civic body election in Uttar Pradesh alone. Her decision comes days after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav announced his party would contest local bodies elections on its symbol.
While addressing at a closed door meeting with senior BSP leaders to decide party's strategy for upcoming local body elections in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati said that the decision of forming an alliance for 2019 Lok Sabha election will be taken after considering the 'janaadhar' of Samajwadi Party and Congress.
The BSP supremo also warned party leaders against demanding money from candidates seeking tickets.
Recalling the 1993 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections when BSP formed alliance with SP, Mayawati said that her party's core dalit vote bank got transferred to SP, but the Muslim vote bank did not vote for BSP instead drifted to Congress.
Mayawati also said that her party is contesting for civic body polls to ensure that thier voter does not shift to any other party.
