Union min Naqvi granted bail over breaching prohibitory orders
New Delhi, Jan 14:Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was convicted by a Rampur court for breaching prohibitory orders during the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. Mukhtar Abbas, along with 19 others have been accused of and were in court custody before being granted bail. However, the quantum of punishment will be announced shortly.
An FIR was registered against Naqvi and his supporters in 2009 during the Lok Sabha elections at Patwai police station of Rampur district.
Meanwhile, BJP supporters are chanting slogans in support of Naqvi outside the court. The case relates to a demonstration by BJP workers led by Naqvi at Patwai area of Rampur parliamentary constituency at the time of campaigning for the 2009 Lok Sabha polls during which they breached the prohibitory orders and forced into a police station.
Naqvi and others were charged under various sections of the IPC and Criminal Law Amendment Act including those related to unlawful assembly.
