New Delhi, Feb 1: There is a lot of speculation on whether the Union Budget 2017 will be presented or not. While Finance Ministry sources have said that the Budget will not be postponed, it would be the Speaker of the House who will take a final call on the matter. The issue is being debated in the event of the death of former Union Minister E Ahamed.
According to the norms, in the event of a sitting MP's demise, the Parliament session is adjourned. However, since the Budget is scheduled to be presented on Wednesday, it will decided by the Speaker whether or not it will be presented as scheduled.
As of now there is no official confirmation on the same. However, government has spoken to all parties and arrived at a consenses. The Budget likely to take place after the obituary.
Meanwhile, Santosh Gangwar, MoS Finance said that normally house is adjourned on death of sitting MP. "So chances are budget can be postponed for a day, but Speaker will decide," he said.
Meanwhile Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley arrived at the Finance Ministry. The session begins at 10 AM and the government has left it up to the Speaker to take a final call on whether the Union Budget would be presented on Wednesday or not.
