According to a press release issued by the NCB, Bengaluru, two foreigners were arrested for drug trafficking from CMR Layout, Chellikere Extension, in the city on Monday.

"The officials of the NCB, Bengaluru, seized various drugs from the duo. The seized illegal substances include 48 gram hashish oil, 430 gram ganja, .3 gram methamphetamine and 05 blots of LSD," informed Sunil Kumar Sinha, zonal director, NCB, Bengaluru.

The accused were identified as Maldivian national Anil Ahmed and Nigerian national Yukubu Usman. Both are currently in judicial custody. On Tuesday, the NCB, Bengaluru, arrested an Indian national Raza Mohammad Mustafa from the Kempegowda International Airport in the city.

The officials of the NCB, Bengaluru, seized 11.820 kg ephedrine from the accused. Mustafa had concealed the drug in his baggage. The consignment was destined to Kuala Lumpur.

The growing number of drug rackets busted by the NCB, Bengaluru, in the last two years is a clear indication of rampant drug abuse in the IT city. In 2014, NCB, Bengaluru, busted eight drug rackets. The number went up to 17 in 2015, as per the data available with the agency.

On the basis of raids conducted by the NCB, the drug most popular among Bengaluru's youth is LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide also known as acid), followed by hashish, ecstasy pills, ganja, heroin, cocaine and MDMA, a pure form of ecstasy that goes by the street name 'molly'.

Even Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara spoke about the drug menace in the city recently. He said, "Such businesses thrive wherever professional colleges are located. Near these educational institutions, there are paan and cigarettes shops through which narcotics are sold."
