Uber rape case: Convict Shiv Kumar Yadav gets life imprisonment till death
New Delhi, Nov 3: Shiv Kumar Yadav, the accused driver who raped a woman in Dec 2014, was sentenced to life imprisonment till death, by a Delhi court, on Tuesday, Nov 3.
Prosecution had demanded maximum punishment of life imprisonment for the convict Shiv Kumar Yadav.
"We requested Court to give him maximum punishment to send a good message to society", Atul Shrivastav, the Public Prosecutor told reporters.
The shocking incident took place on Dec 5 last year, when the victim, a 25-year-old finance executive working in Gurgaon, was headed back to her house at Inderlok in north west Delhi.
Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja pronounced the order.
Yadav was convicted last month on charges of rape, causing grievous bodily harm and endangering the life of the woman, and other charges dealing with kidnapping, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.
Yadav was arrested on Dec 7, 2014 from his native place in Mathura district. 32-year-old Shiv Kumar Yadav was held guilty for the offences under various sections of the IPC.
The incident had led to widespread outrage, raising questions on the women safety in the national capital.
