2 arrested for smuggling liquor in Nagaland
Kohima, Aug 19: Police personnel manning an inter-state check gate at Khuzama arrested two persons for smuggling huge quantity of liquor worth Rs 39 lakh in the market, a police official said today.
Kohima police manning Khuzama check gate while conducting routine frisking and checking of vehicles yesterday intercepted a Manipur bound truck and recovered 300 cases of Signature whisky and 300 cases of MC whisky worth Rs 39,60,000, PRO Kohima police Atu Zumvu said.
The consignment was found concealed beneath 120 bags of dry fish to hoodwink the security personnel, he said.
Police said that on interrogation the driver disclosed that the consignment was loaded at Guwahati, Assam and was meant for the BSF in Manipur.
However, he said that no valid documents were produced except some contradictory papers to mislead the police.
Two persons identified as Md Sahidur Rahman and Md Ayub, both hailing from Kakching village under Thoubal district of Manipur, were taken into police custody.
In this connection, a regular case under Nagaland Liquor Prohibition Act has been registered at Khuzama Police Station for conducting further investigation.
