Members of the DMK and O Panneerselvam faction of the AIADMK filed petitions with poll officers against the nomination quoting Dinakaran's conviction in a FERA case and confusion over his citizenship issues. Returning officer Pravin Nair had earlier said that the same were being considered closely. After scrutiny, the returning officer accepted TTV Dinakaran's nomination.
Nominations of Panneerselvam camp's E Madhusudhanan, Deepa Jayakumar and DMK candidate Marudu Ganesh were also accepted by the returning officer. The Election Commission rejected the nomination of a candidate from Sharathkumar's party All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi. Deepa who had launched her political outfit MGR Amma Deepa forum, chose to file nomination as an independent candidate.
