Truck driver jumps into river to escape cow vigilantes, dies in MP
Bhopal, Aug 8: Body of a truck driver has been fished out after he and his helper jumped into an overflowing river in Raisen district in Madhya Pradesh in a bid to escape lynching by alleged cow vigilantes.
The driver identified as Manu Bhai was beaten up by a group of unidentified persons after three cows were run over by his truck accidentally in Raisen's Sultanpur town on Thursday night.
Victim a native of Gujarat, had been living in Raisen's Pipaliya area.
Fearing death at the hands of crowd, Manu Bhai and his cleaner, Mohsin Khan, 25, jumped into overflowing Barna river, reported the Times of India.
Khan who narrated the ordeal to police swam to safety.
"No particular organization is involved in the attack. We have lodged a case and investigations are on," said Raisen SP Deepak Verma. Police said the transport company had sent three trucks to Sultanpur to lift wheat from FCI warehouses.
