The tension was palpable between Mamata Banerjee and Mukul Roy. Mamata Banerjee's disappointment with Roy is out in the open and today she appointed her new office bearers and as expected the name of Roy was missing.
The A team of Mamata also included Dinesh Trivedi who was rumoured to be quitting the party and joining the BJP some time back. Roy who has been absent from all important meetings of the TMC in the recent past was not even present at the meeting held today to appointment the new office bearers.
The new team
Mamata's A team would comprise Dinesh Trivedi an MP as the All India Vice President. Subrata Bakshi who is also an MP has been appointed as the All India additional general secretary.
Derek O'Brien who has been appointed as the All India Secretary was also given charge of North East and Kerala. The other two all India general secretaries are Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Firhad Hakim.
TMC MP and close aide of Mamata, Subhendu Adhikari has been given charge of Assam while West Bengal minister, Subrata Mukherjee will look after Tripura.
Writing was on the wall
Mukul Roy ever since he was summoned by the CBI has been singing a different tune much to the disliking of Mamata Banerjee. While the entire TMC leadership was trying to deny that Mamata and Saradha scam accused Sudipta Sen had met in Kalimpong in 2011, it was Mukul Roy who openly confirmed the meeting to the media recently.
Even during and after his questioning by the CBI he has maintained that the real truth in the Saradha scam must come out. Since he was questioned two weeks back by the CBI, he has maintained a distance from the Mamata camp.
Many in West Bengal feel that he is waiting for the opportune time to come out of the party and float one of his own. It was rumoured that he would join the BJP. However the BJP rubbished these reports and said that they would not welcome any Saradha tainted person into the party.
