Tolerance and respect integral part of our tradition: Ravi Shankar Prasad

New Delhi, Dec 22: Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said tolerance and respect for contrary view has been an integral part of India's tradition.

Speaking during a spiritual event here, Prasad said the spiritual understanding is based upon the fundamental premise of respecting views of each other.

Tolerance integral part of our tradition

"Tolerance and respect for contrary view has been integral to our classical tradition and if you take this view, which I believe is the Indian view, then a different kind of spiritual understanding emerges," Prasad said.

He further said that India's respect is growing world over under the leadership today, which is a recognition of larger spiritual tradition which India represents.

The Minister said there should be a healthy debate on these issues. Recently, a debate on intolerance stirred after a number of artists, literary persons and film stars expressed concerns over incidents spreading disharmony in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu said there is a lot of turbulence around the world.

"There are all kinds of problems and all kinds of issues...but all kinds of problems are necessarily created by none other than human being themselves," Prabhu said.

The Minister said if cause of the problem is human beings, than the solution also has to be human being himself.

"You cannot solve human problems by technological issues," he added.
