To clean Ganga leather industries to be moved away

Cleaning up the Ganga is a pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a bid to make Ganga pollution free, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to start shifting leather industry units in a phased manner. The CM told officials that the shifting must take place at any cost and it should be ensured that no dirty and polluted water should flow into the Ganga.

The CM said that near Roorkee, Ganga water is routed to several canals and this has reduced the water level. Ponds should be dug under the MNREGA and water conserved so that water level in Ganga doesn't go down. Projects that prevent the flow of dirty water into the Ganga must be implemented at any cost, Yogi also stressed. According to Bulandshahar MLA, Sanjay Sharma there 404 tanneries in Kanpur. He said that the Banthar Leather Park was identified for relocation.

Yogi Adityanath during his meeting with officials said that UP has a major role to play in making the Namami Gange project a sucess. He instructed officials to undertake projects to de-silt rivers and said that after this many rivers will be revived which would ensure that there is no scarcity of water.
