Even as Governor of Tamil Nadu, Vidyasagar Rao sought for a report on the trust vote held on Saturday, sources say that he is unlikely to interfere. The DMK and the O Panneerselvam group had complained that the rules were not followed during the trust vote. They sought for an investigation into the matter.

However, Rao told the delegation that the trust vote would have been won even if the opposition was present and a secret ballot held. He said that E Palanisamy had the support of 122 MLAs and there was no reason for him to suspect those numbers.

Rao also told the delegation that the speaker has the power to decide on how the House needs to be conducted. He said that he would seek a report, but would not interfere in the matter. The speaker is the one who takes a call on such issues and he has the powers to decide on how the voting will be conducted, Rao also said.

Rao however suggested that if the parties are aggrieved by the manner in which the trust vote was held, then they should approach the judiciary. The judiciary can call for a report and decide on whether the trust vote was fair or not. The judiciary can also direct that a fresh trust vote be held in the presence of observers, Rao told the delegation.
